Allen R. Urbaniak

 
Allen R. Urbaniak, 77, passed away peacefully at his home August 23, 2018 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.  Born November 17, 1940 in Marinette son of the late Charlotte and John Urbaniak, he  proudly served  in the U.S. Army with the 1st Calvary.
A longtime member of the American Legion Post 312 and the VFW #8813,  he served in leadership roles in both organizations and was a strong advocate for Veterans.  Allen completed a Tough Mudder course in 2013 with his daughter, raising money for the wounded warrior project.  He spearheaded efforts to restore the cemetery and to construct veterans monuments at Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo.
After his military service Allen had many careers including working as a farmer, machinist, bridge tender, and operating engineer.  He was a very gifted tinkerer.
After retiring from employment with Marinette County, Allen found time to travel, garden and volunteer.  He participated in humanitarian trips to Haiti and Antigua to help those affected by disaster.
Allen met his wife, Linda, of 19 years in Peshtigo where they made their home.  In addition to his love for the outdoors Allen was an aviation and motorcycle enthusiast.  He was a lifelong EAA member and enjoyed attending the annual event.  He enjoyed taking trips on his motorcycle across the U.S. and Canada and collected all things Harley Davidson.  
Allen's involvement in community affairs resulted in his being awarded the Peshtigo Area Chamber of Commerce Richard Roland Person of the Year Award in 2014,   Legionnaire of the Year.  Allen was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Allen is survived by his wife, Linda; 3 sons, Steve, Rob and Jodi; 2 daughters, Jackie (Russ) and Jami; a sister, Joan Hetcher; grandchildren, nieces; nephews and other relatives and countless friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeff. 
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 26, at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.   Visitation continues on Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church (1501 Thomas St.) Marinette from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 am.   Burial with military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo.
Special thanks to the people at Unity Hospice for their loving care and support which allowed Allen to achieve his wish to spend his final days at home.
