Betty Jane Behnke 

Betty Jane (Rickel) Behnke went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2019.  She was born on August 28, 1933 in Green Bay to Herman and Myrtle (Krause) Rickel.  After spending most of her childhood in Green Bay, she moved to Peshtigo, where she completed her senior year at Peshtigo High School and graduated with the class of 1951.  She met the love of her life, John O. Behnke, Jr.  They were married on June 7, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church, Peshtigo and celebrated 48 years together until John’s death in 2000.
     Following graduation, she worked at Badger Paper Mills until she began her family and became a full-time mother.  She later began her 30-plus year career as deputy clerk/treasurer with the City of Peshtigo, a job that she loved and dedicated countless hours to.
     Betty taught Sunday School, attended Bible Study, and was a member of Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church where she was a faithful member and loved to sing in the church choir
     Betty is survived by her son, Kim (Wendy) Behnke and their children Heather (Travis) Orlando and Ryan Behnke; daughter, Susan (Richard) Polzin and their children Brett (Sarah) and Bryan (Dr. Andrea) Polzin; and son, Michael (Lisa) Behnke and their children Andrea (Jonathon) Kanniainen, Kaitlyn (Mitchell) Becker, Anna Behnke and step-grandson, Steven Koeffler. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, a step-great grandson and two great-grandbabies soon to be born; Ethan and Brayden Orlando; Braxton, Dixon, Archer Polzin and Parker North; Jordyn Walters and Olivia Kanniainen; and Xander and Elliana Becker.   She is also survived by brother-in-law, Curtis A. (Bobbie) Behnke; sister-in-law, Sheri Behnke; nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy (George, Jr.) Byng; brother-in-law, Dennis Behnke; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Behnke; and mother and father-in-law, Doris and John O. Behnke, Sr.
     Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 18 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo from 3:00 pm until time of services at 5:00 pm with Pastor Luke Myslik officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo.
