Helen Mary Borths

     Helen Mary Borths, 87, of Peshtigo passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 6th at Rennes Health Center - East.
     She was born on January 25, 1931 in Marinette to the late Elton and Esther (Thayer) Van Winkle.  She graduated from Marinette High School in 1949. On July 2, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo she married Myron Borths who passed away in 1972. Together they built 22 homes and other rental properties. She drove school bus for the Peshtigo Public Schools for nearly 5 years and was Sexton of Peshtigo Riverside Cemetery for 20 years. She also served as the director and bookkeeper for the Cemetery Board.
     She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Peshtigo. She was a past president of the Peshtigo VFW Auxiliary and served on the Peshtigo Zoning Board of Appeals. She also served as president of the Peshtigo Chamber of Commerce from 1981-1982 and was named Peshtigo Citizen of the Year in 1983.  In her retirement, she made hundreds of lap quilts and baby blankets which were donated to the Zion Ladies Aid Society. She took pride in her yard and enjoyed working in her flower gardens.
      Survivors include two sons, Glenn (Brenda) of Casco and Craig (Jean) of Peshtigo; three daughters, Bonnie (Sean) Whalen, of California, Debbie Williams of Escanaba, MI and Terri Borths of Appleton, WI. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Eleanor Van Winkle. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Virginia, Thelma, Gladys and Joyce, a twin brother Jim and a brother Allen.
     Visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo on  Friday, February  9,  from 10:00 am until the time of service at Noon  with Pastor Luke Myslik officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo.
     The family would like to thank the entire staff at Rennes Health Center – East for their compassionate care of Helen. They would also like to extend their sincere appreciation to Heartland Hospice. She enjoyed each and every one of the caregivers.
